CBC was formed in January of 1985 from a remnant of members from Westminster Presbyterian Church and a church planting team from Westover Church of Greensboro. The Westminster Church was in existence for ten years growing from a home church to an attendance high of thirty members in the original building at 3523 Johnson Street in High Point, North Carolina. In 1984 leadership from Westminster asked the Westover Church of Greensboro to take over the church and build an independent ministry reflective of the growth ministry that was taking place at Westover. This took place in January of 1985 with ten members from each body forming the nucleus of the new church called Community Bible Church.
CBC was formed based on Acts 1:8b. It was the leaderships' desire that we would be an outreach church not only to High Point but also to the entire world. In the first year CBC confirmed this direction through the support of our first four missionaries. CBC also paid half of former Pastor Dennis Gill's salary who was loaned to us for our Sunday Worship Services. In January of 1986 Dennis Gill was called to be our full time pastor. By mid-year his full support was assumed by the church and 1987 declared the church independent by the elder board of Westover Church. By 1987 it was evident that additional Sunday school and office space was needed to expand the ministry. This addition was completed in 1988 and two worship services were necessary to accommodate the growth in Sunday morning attendance. A youth leader was added in 1988, which added to our ministry outreach.
By 1990 it was obvious even with the new building we could not continue to grow at the original property of 3 1/2 acres. Eleven acres were purchased two and half miles north on Johnson Street. In 1992 a Worship Center was constructed on this new property and over the next five years both facilities were used for Sunday school and worship. In 1996 the old church building was sold and new offices and Sunday school wing was built on the present property. The church moved in mid-year 1997. In 1998, Bill Simpson, CBC member and missionary, began serving the church as Senior Pastor. Bill continued in ministry until May 2007. From May to December, pastors Dave Annan, Jon Eric Woodward and Rob Black provided leadership while a teaching pastor was sought.
In December of 2007, Pastor Bill Mugford was called to the position of lead/teaching pastor. Bill came to CBC from High Point Church in Madison, Wisconsin. Bill served the church until August 2009.
Future plans for our facilities include the construction of a new sanctuary with added Sunday School space.
