CBC Core Values

CBC's core values are the ministry distinctives that provide a framework for understanding what we are all about at Community Bible Church. They are not the doctrines we hold to but rather the convictions we believe in that will guide every aspect of our ministry in the new millennium.

God's Word is our final authority.
  1. The Ministry of the Word
  2. The scriptures indicate that we are to do “nothing against the truth, but only for the truth.” As a result, we aim to keep the Bible central in the teaching ministry of the church - pulpit, groups and Bible studies. We stand with our denomination in evaluating every aspect of the ministry of our church with the question, “Where stands it written? This protects us from unwarrnated tradition or innovation.
  3. Worship is Our Response
  4. God’s Word admonishes us to express our love, devotion and gratitude to God for who He is and what He does. Our dedication to Him must be expressed. As Jesus’ Church, we believe it is essential that we demonstrate our love for God through individual and corporate times of worship.
  5. Small Groups
  6. We believe it is God’s design that His followers meet together regularly, both as a corporate body and in small accountability groups. In gathering, we demonstrate God’s desire for us to be a close knit community that honors Him and builds one another up towards maturity in Christ.
  7. Global and Local Outreach
  8. Jesus commissioned His church to make for Himself followers in all nations. Therefore, we believe CBC is to minister both in our local community and in foreign countries. We are to be a sending church; sending from our congregation people, prayers, finances and encouragement for the expansion of God’s kingdom throughout the world. 20% of our giving goes to foreign missions and a lesser sum to local ministries. The aim of CBC is to stress training and outreach with sharing the gospel as a goal and practice in each mission or missional work. Our primary work is Friendship Outreach to the Old Winston neighborhood.
  9. Caring for the Needy
  10. It is the church’s responsibility to minister to the whole person - physical, emotional and spiritual needs. To that end, give a high priority to Biblical (nouthetic) counseling method of addressing spiritual and emotional needs. A benevolence fund is administered to members of the congregation to meet physical needs of the congregation. Open Door shelter is our agency of choice to assist most of those outside the church. Matthew 28:19-20, & James 1:27-2:13
  11. Family Ministry
  12. Our vision is to assist families from cradle to college in all the opportunities and challenges that our culture presents. We provide pre-marital counseling for couplse, paretn training for couples, spiritual coaching for children and relevant teenage interaction, along with parental support, counsel and encouragement to assist families in the responsibilities they bear. Kidstuf and small groups are distinctives of this area of ministry. Ephesians 6:1-4, & Psalm 127
